Thailand’s Deputy Minister Pichai Chunhavajira will lead the negotiations initiated by the US to strengthen long-standing economic ties.
Thailand and the US are preparing for trade negotiations to strengthen economic ties.
The United States has expressed its readiness to begin trade negotiations with Thailand. The Thai delegation at these negotiations, aimed at intensifying bilateral economic cooperation, will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira. This was announced by Foreign Minister Maris Sangiamphongs.
In a post on his social media page, Minister Maris noted that the Thai Ambassador to Washington, Surya Chindavongse, had informed him of the US government’s readiness to support the Thai embassy in coordinating with the relevant US agencies to organize a schedule for the negotiations.
Maris Sangiamphongsas emphasized that he had instructed the ambassador to coordinate actions and ensure that trade negotiations between Pichai Chunhavajira and US representatives take place in the near future. He expressed confidence in the success of the negotiations, given the long-standing alliance and strong bilateral relations between the countries.
The US government has requested an urgent meeting with Pichai Chunhavajira. Prime Minister Peatthongtarn Chinavat instructed her team to speed up preparations, and the meeting schedule will be confirmed shortly. Pichai Chunhavajira is expected to hold separate meetings with the US Trade Representative, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Secretary of Commerce.
During the discussions, Thailand’s trade proposals will be presented, which, according to reports, have been positively received by the American side. Maris Sangiampoongsa added that after these key meetings are completed, no further discussions with other US agencies will be necessary.
Pichai Chunhavajira recently led the Thai delegation at an informal WTO ministerial meeting in Paris, organized by Australia at the OECD headquarters. The meeting focused on issues related to the development of world trade and the role of countries in shaping new economic realities.
These negotiations are of great importance for strengthening economic ties between Thailand and the United States, as well as for expanding business and investment opportunities in both countries. The negotiations are expected to result in increased trade and the creation of new jobs.
