According to a report by Expat Insider from InterNations, Thailand is the sixth-best country for expatriates to participate in and work in.
According to the latest Expat Insider Experience from InterNations, the global community of people living abroad, Thailand has been ranked the sixth-best country worldwide for expats to live and work. The Kingdom continues to attract foreigners with its unique experiences, rich culture, and high quality of life, offering a blend of modernity and tradition that is truly captivating.
More than 12,500 people from 53 countries participated in this year’s study. Respondents rated their satisfaction with life abroad on five main criteria: quality of life, ease of adjustment, working abroad, personal finances and the so-called ‘expat basic nexpatindex’, which includes housing, administrative issues, language and digital life.
Panama led the rankings this year, with 82 per cent of expats surveyed saying they were satisfied with life in the country. The majority of respondents said they moved to this Central American country for financial reasons, for retirement, or in search of a better quality of life. The low cost of living, ease of relocation for foreigners, and affordable housing were critical factors in Panama’s appeal.
Following Panama, the top 10 countries for expats were Mexpats: Indonesia, Spain, Colombia, Thailand, Brazil, Vietnam, the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates. Notably, the list is dominated by countries with warm climates and rich cultural heritage, likely an important factor for many expats-pats when expats a new place to live.
Thai government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke noted that Prime Minister Settha Thavisin has been actively promoting tourism since taking office, seeing it as the main economic engine for generating revenue for the country and creating jobs for Thais.
To encourage the influx of foreign visitors, the Thai government has introduced several measures, including visa-free entry for citizens of several countries and expedited visa processing for foreigners participating in MICE events (meetings, incentive travel, conferences and exhibitions). These initiatives promote tourism and make Thailand more attractive for long-term residence for foreigners.
Thailand’s high ranking on Expat InsiderExpatirms the success of these measures and reinforces the country’s reputation as one of the most attractive destinations for expats. The expansion of traditional Thai hospitality, modern infrastructure, rich culture, and relatively low cost of living make the Kingdom an ideal destination for those seeking new opportunities and experiences abroad, instilling confidence in the country’s attractiveness.
For those considering a move to Thailand, this ranking provides further evidence of the country’s appeal. However, it is important to remember that every expat’s experience is unique, and all aspects of life in a new country should be thoroughly researched before deciding to relocate, ensuring you are fully prepared and informed for the journey ahead.
