Three national parks in southern Thailand will be the filming locations for the Hollywood sci-fi action thriller ‘Jurassic World 4’ from 17 to 28 June 2024.
The crew of ‘Jurassic World – 4’, the latest film in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise, has submitted a request to use three national parks in Thailand as filming locations, Khaosod reports. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation will spend several days reviewing the film-maker’s request.
Attaphon Charoenchansa, department director-general, said the Hollywood film crew had submitted a detailed plan to use the filming locations from 17 to 28 June. The filming plan includes:
Kradan Island and Morakot Cave in Hat Chao Mai National Park in Trang Province
Huay To Waterfall in Khao Phanom Benjah National Park in Krabi.
Tapu, Nakha and Song Phi Nong Islands in Phang Nga Bay National Park in Phang Nga Province.Attaphon added that active use of drones is expected during the filming.
By regulations on commercial use of national parks, the department will charge the film crew 3,500 baht per day with a surety of 2 million baht for the 12-day use of the filming locations, Attthaphon said, adding that there is an annexe to the contract detailing compensation for any damage, if any, to the environment, plants and wildlife during the filming period.
Attaphone told the film crew that the department is concerned about the potential impact on the environment and would like filming activities to be environmentally friendly. For example, the equipment used in creating exterior sets should not affect the environment and have the most negligible impact on nature.
Aththaphon stressed the need for a strict approach to avoid repeating the mistakes made during the filming of ‘The Beach’ at Maya Bay in Krabi in 2000. Trees were cut down during filming, and Maya Beach was bulldozed to create new sets for filming, causing significant damage to the environment and the bay’s ecological system.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand has proposed to set up a dinosaur theme park in Khon Kaen to promote tourism and generate revenue for the northeastern region.
Seksan Sripraiwa, director of the Khon Kaen Tourist Board office, urged the government to cooperate with the private sector to build the theme park as Thailand has places of geological significance, including the Phu Wiang dinosaur footprint in Khon Kaen and dinosaur fossils in Kalasin.
“We need to build a big theme park as big as Disneyland with a simulation from the film Jurassic World. Such a tourist attraction will generate much income for the locals,’ Seksan said.
Somradi Chitchong, the tourism authority’s deputy head for the domestic market, said it is preparing to work with Major Cineplex to create tour itineraries to dinosaur sites following the announcement that Jurassic World 4 will be filmed in Thailand’s southern provinces of Krabi and Trang from mid-June to mid-July.
‘The filming of major films such as Jurassic World 4 in Thailand is a good sign that will greatly boost the country’s tourism industry, expecting to attract both Thai and foreign tourists to the filming locations, especially families of dinosaur lovers,’ Somradi said.
Aman Madadam, director of the Tourism Authority office in Krabi province, said the film shoot would help boost tourism in the province by increasing hotel bookings, occupancy, and shopping. The film’s production is expected to generate revenue of at least 100 million baht.
