Tourists from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan can visit Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days, along with citizens of the other 36 countries receiving this right from 15 July.
Starting Monday, 15 July, citizens of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will be able to visit Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days. This significant change, announced by Thai Interior Ministry spokeswoman Traisuri Taisaranakul, is part of the Ministry of Foreign AffairsAffairs’ measures to stimulate the tourism sector, a key player in the country’s economy.
The decision is part of a new scheme to promote tourism in Thailand, aimed at boosting the economy and encouraging tourists to stay in the country longer. According to the Bangkok Post, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed four documents facilitating entry for foreigners, which will come into effect on Monday, 15 July, following publication in the Royal Gazette, Thailand’s official government publication.
Under the new guidelines, the list of countries eligible for visa-free entry will significantly increase from 57 to 93. This expansion, which includes countries such as Albania, Cambodia, China, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Morocco, Panama, Romania, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, ensures that visitors from these countries can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without the need for a visa.
Thailand will also nearly double the number of countries eligible for a visa on arrival, from 19 to 31. In addition, introducing the ‘Destination Thailand’ visa, aimed at digital nomads, freelancers, and visitors wishing to learn or practise skills such as cooking and Thai boxing, opens up exciting new opportunities. This visa, valid for five years, allows holders to stay in Thailand for up to 180 days, providing a unique chance to explore and experience the country.
Students holding visas for master’s or doctoral studies can stay in Thailand for another year after graduation to seek employment or travel instead of leaving the country immediately.
Government Speaker Chai Wacharonke emphasised the change’s importance, noting that about 40,000 international students are currently studying in Thailand. The new policy will allow them to stay in the country after graduation, which could help meet the need for skilled labour in specific sectors of the economy.
The measures follow a cabinet decision in principle on the issue in May to boost the economy and tourism. Visa-free entry for 60 days for citizens of 36 countries was initially scheduled to be introduced in June, but the introduction was postponed.
Thailand, known for its picturesque beaches, ancient temples and rich culture, has long been a popular tourist destination. Limiting visa requirements for citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries will undoubtedly attract even more visitors and help Thailand’s tourism industry recover from the pandemic.
