Thai national parks set new revenue record

Thai national parks

From October 1, 2023, to June 20, 2024, the revenue generated by Thailand’s national parks has jumped fourfold from its previous revenue-generating period of 1.467 billion baht (2016-17).

The record-breaking revenue was largely driven by the top five national parks, notably Nopparat Thara Beach National Park—Phi Phi Islands, Similan National Park, Khao Laem Ya—Mu Ko Samet National Park, Ao Phang Nga National Park, and Doi Inthanon National Parc, which collectively contributed 500.87 million and 240,000, respectively.

Foreign tourists continue to flock to Nopparat Thara Beach National Park, the primary location for the Phi Phile Islands. This compares to a significant increase of over 500 million in the previous nine months when it was 300 million baht. Over 4.5 million foreign visitors visited the park, marking a 41.5% increase of the prior year.

According to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, most of the revenue will be directed towards enhancing the parks’ infrastructure and facilities. Additionally, funds will be allocated for staff salaries, personnel development packages, and donations to local government organizations in the parks’ vicinity.
