The Bank of Thailand will issue a new 100 baht commemorative banknote to mark the birthday of His Majesty King Rama X of Thailand.
A significant date is approaching as His Majesty King Rama X (Maha Vachiralongkorn) of Thailand will celebrate his 72nd birthday on July 28. To mark the occasion, the Bank of Thailand (BoT) will issue 10 million commemorative banknotes, which will not only be a tribute to the beloved monarch but also an actual work of art.
According to central bank governor Setaput Suthiwatnarueput, the 100-baht banknote is printed in portrait orientation on polymer material using the latest printing technology. This will ensure the durability of the banknote and protection against counterfeiting. Polymer banknotes are a relatively new phenomenon in the world of money circulation. The banknotes are more durable and resistant to contamination than traditional paper banknotes.
The commemorative banknote, a piece of the country’s history and a rare collectible, will be available for purchase from July 23 at commercial and state-owned banks, as well as at the Bank of Thailand Knowledge Centre, making it easily accessible to all.
Interestingly, the central bank has also printed two million envelopes worth 10 baht each in which collectors can store commemorative banknotes. All proceeds from the sale of the envelopes will be given to His Majesty the King as a birthday present.
Thailand is a constitutional monarchy, and the King is highly respected and loved by his subjects. The monarch’s birthday is a bank holiday and a day off in the country. Issuing a commemorative banknote is just one of the many events to mark this date. Colourful processions, festivals, and charity events take place all over the country.
The new banknote, a symbol of pride for all Thais, is a testament to their love and loyalty to their King. For collectors worldwide, it is a unique treasure, a blend of high-tech printing and a tribute to a monarch steeped in rich history and tradition.
