Nearly 15 million foreign tourists visited Thailand in the first five months of this year, up 38 per cent from last year. Tourists from China hold the top spot, the Bangkok Post reported, citing a statement from government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

Prime Minister Settha Thavisin is actively driving the development of the tourism industry, recognizing its potential to boost the economy. His ‘Minister’si’and’ prThailand’ are vital parts of this strategy, which aims to enhance the quality of human resources in the industry.

Chai said the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Labour, and the Tourism Council of Thailand would hold a training event called ‘Ignite Tourism Thailand: TAT Skill Factory’ on June 15 and 16 to upgrade the skills of industry personnel.

The 14.76 million foreign tourists who flocked to Thailand in the first five months of this year have contributed significantly to the country’s economy, generating over 700 billion baht in revenue. The largest group, with 2.91 million visitors, came from China. Government spokesman Chai Wacharonke predicts a total of 35 million foreign visitors for the year.

Prime Minister Settha Thavisin visited the Thai office of Agoda, the world’s largest hotel booking platform, and spoke with executives from the company. Settha Thavisin expressed hope that the platform will contribute to making 2025 a vital year forThailand’s tourism industry, which is on its way to full recovery from the pandemic.

The Prime Minister also held talks with representatives of Thailand’ snd airports, Thai Airways International, and VietJet Air to find ways to increase flight frequencies to overseas destinations and offer more fare discounts.
